Sydney Mardi Gras, a recap…

The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras this year was a dazzling display of pride, with our rubber community making a visible presence. The electric atmosphere was magnified by your enthusiastic participation, making our collective presence unmissable.

Celebrations started out with Queer Screen’s screening of Pink Narcissus. Our friends at The Hide were presenting this movie, so naturally the cinema experienced quite the rubber presence. We thank The Hide for the invitation and Queer Screen for selecting an apt movie for The Hide to present.

Next in line was the much anticipated Inquisition. A reboot of an oldschool fetish party in Sydney, it delivered. Heavy hitting DJ’s, performances, and even a string quartet, it rang in the Mardi Gras silly season well! The Eagle kept spirits high with their multi theme nights in the week leading up to the parade. The Hide also had a night in the lead up too. There wasn’t a lack of celebration.

On the eve of the parade, GearUp set the stage for an exceptional start to Mardi Gras weekend. This gathering wasn’t just a party; it was a transformative experience that prepared us for the spectacle to come. Surrounded by friends and fellow rubber enthusiasts, the energy felt at GearUp built the anticipation for the big night. GearUp proved once again to be an essential prelude to the main event, leaving us inspired and ready to shine on parade day.

Last Saturday, the parade kicked off, transforming Oxford Street into a vibrant tapestry of colour, sound, and celebration. Among the myriad of floats, Studio Kink and Fetish Australia stood out, drawing together a proud assembly of rubberists. The electric feeling of marching in the parade in your favourite gear is simply one to be experienced to be truly understood.
